What is TRD
Are you wondering what is TRD? You may have seen the acronym used on vehicle descriptions or badges on cars. It stands for Toyota Racing Development. Founded in 1976, TRD is a subdivision of Toyota responsible for racing, tuning, and developing parts for Toyota's specialized vehicles.
According to Toyota UK Magazine, Toyota entered several vehicles in the Japanese Grand Prix in 1963; a 2.0-liter Toyota Crown, 1.6-litre Toyota Corona, and a 700cc Toyota Publica, which were all victorious in each of their classes. There was a growing interest in motorsport at the time. Under the name of Tosco, (Toyota Sports Corner), they continued to build and/or oversee the production of several other vehicles for racing including the 2000GT which broke new world speed records. In 1970, the Toyota 7 Turbo is produced and became the world's first turbocharged race car. In 1976, Tosco was renamed TRD.
Since then, TRD has been involved in overseeing the production of cars and/or performance parts in many forms of racing, including touring cars, formula 1, rally, and drifting.
Today, TRD badges adorn most Toyota vehicle's as a specialized trim level with extra performance and/or styling parts. Browse our inventory below to find your perfect Toyota TRD in Wyoming!
